What are Pasadena’s current property taxes?
Your property-tax bill can include taxes based on your property’s assessed value plus separate charges. Measure PFD would add a charge based on building square footage. Use this guide to understand your bill, see where PFD would fit, and find the records you need.
What am I paying for on my property-tax bill?
Look for three categories: the general property tax of 1% of net taxable value, charges for voter-approved debt, and direct assessments. Direct assessments are separate charges that are not based on your property’s assessed value.
For the 1% calculation, use the net taxable value printed on your bill, not your home’s listing price.
How much would Measure PFD add?
Measure PFD would add $0.19 per taxable square foot of building area each year, before exemptions, for a proposed 14-year term.
For example, 1,600 taxable square feet would produce a $304 annual PFD charge before exemptions. That would be added to your existing property taxes. Calculate your PFD tax increase or check your PFD exemptions.
Is Measure I part of my property-tax bill?
No. Measure I is a sales tax on purchases. The 2018 ballot question proposed a three-quarter-cent sales tax for general City services. It is not calculated from a home’s size or assessed value. Our Measure PFD and Measure I comparison shows what each tax applies to and how its revenue can be spent.
What should I check on my bill?
- Find your Assessor’s Identification Number and tax year on the bill.
- Check your net taxable value, 1% general tax, voter-approved debt charges, and direct assessments separately.
- Use the agency contact listed beside a direct assessment for questions about that charge. Ask the Assessor about assessed value, and the Tax Collector about billing and payment.
Each tax has its own exemption rules. Qualifying for a PFD exemption would not automatically remove other charges from your bill.
Need an exact amount for your property?
Check your official tax bill for current amounts, including school bonds and district assessments. Contact the agency listed beside a charge if you have questions about how it applies to you.
