How much would Measure PFD add to your property taxes?
Need help finding your square footage?
Find your property
Open the County Assessor search and enter your address or Assessor Identification Number (AIN). Choose the matching property and check its address and parcel status.
Find my property (opens in a new tab)Look for Building SqFt
Open “Building & Land Overview.” Use “Building SqFt,” rather than “Land SqFt” or a dollar value.
- Building SqFt
- 1,600
- Land SqFt
- 6,000
Example record: enter 1,600 in the calculator.
Check before calculating
Use the building area for the property you are estimating. If the record is missing, shows zero, or lists several buildings, confirm the applicable area with the Assessor and City before relying on an estimate.
A Pasadena mailing address alone does not confirm that a property is inside city limits.
If Measure PFD passes, it would add $0.19 per taxable square foot of building area each year for property in the City of Pasadena, before exemptions. For a 1,600-square-foot home, that is $304 more a year.
How is your PFD tax increase calculated?
Added tax per year = taxable building square feet × $0.19. Multiply the yearly amount by 14 to estimate the total over 14 years. Divide the yearly amount by 12 for the monthly equivalent. The proposed rate has no annual cost-of-living increase.
| Square feet | Annual cost | 14 years |
|---|---|---|
| 1,000 | $190.00 | $2,660.00 |
| 1,600 | $304.00 | $4,256.00 |
| 2,000 | $380.00 | $5,320.00 |
| 20,000 | $3,800.00 | $53,200.00 |
Where do I find my square footage?
Use the recorded building area in your property records, not the size of your land or lot. This calculator also works for apartment buildings and commercial properties. A Pasadena mailing address or ZIP code alone does not establish that a parcel is inside the City of Pasadena. Check that your property is inside city limits and that you have the right building area.
The proposed rate applies to homes, apartments, businesses, and other developed properties, subject to exemptions. The result is a property-tax estimate for the building; it does not estimate a renter’s rent increase.
