Could you qualify for a Measure PFD tax exemption?
You may not have to pay the Measure PFD parcel tax if you qualify for an exemption. Your household income, Pasadena senior or disability utility-tax exemption, or qualifying property ownership could exempt you. Use your answers above to identify which PFD exemption requirements to check.
Which PFD exemptions could apply to you as an owner?
Senior or disability utility-tax exemption
If you receive Pasadena’s senior citizen or disability utility-tax exemption, you would also be exempt from PFD. Being a senior, by itself, does not meet this requirement.
Income-based exemption
You could also qualify based on income, regardless of age. Your annual household income must be at or below HUD’s Very Low (50%) Income Limit for Los Angeles-Long Beach-Glendale for the year you claim an exemption.
Which government and organization properties are exempt?
Federal, state, and local government agencies would not pay this tax. Religious facilities and community-service organizations could also qualify if their property is exempt from value-based property taxes under California law.
Constitutional tax exemptions would still apply. Nonprofit or business status alone does not automatically qualify a property.
How do you confirm your PFD exemption?
Start with the owner or property category above that matches your situation. Ask the City to confirm the requirements. If Measure PFD passes, follow the City’s published application instructions and deadlines.
For the income-based exemption, check the official income limit for the year you claim it. The proposed ordinance uses that year’s limit, so a single dollar amount does not apply to every household or year.
Calculate your PFD tax without an exemption before exemptions.
